First-year Middlesex County boys basketball coach suspended for recruiting violation

The boys basketball season for St. Thomas Aquinas begins December 19 with a game at Old Bridge, but that won’t be the case for first-year head coach Austin Whitehurst.
The longtime high school assistant and AAU coach – hired last April by the Edison-based school – is required to sit out the first eight games of the season after the controversies committee of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association recently found Whitehurst guilty of attempting to recruit a student-athlete from another local high school.
